Role
Responsible for researching botanical literature for information on target species for the production of seed collection guides for MSBP partners.
As part of the Species Targeting Team, literature is gathered for information on taxa with high conservation priority for the MSB Project. Information is entered into a database, which is used to compile collection guides designed to facilitate the work of seed collectors in the field. Such information includes plant descriptions, habitat, distribution and phenology data. The nomenclature of the targeted taxa is checked as up-to-date. At present focus is mainly on target lists from Madagascar, in collaboration with the Paris Herbarium. Also involved in training colleagues and visitors in the use of the Brahms database standards, especially the transfer of herbarium sheet information and geo-referencing. Also helping to resolve taxonomic and nomenclatural queries from the specimen digitizers and other members of the team.
