Role

Specialist research interest in New World Compositae, with an overview of the World’s Compositae.

Ongoing specialist interest in Compositae of the New World, with a particular focus on the Compositae of Brazil (especially São Paulo, Bahia and NE Brazil) and Bolivia, but also maintaining an overview of the World’s Compositae, having assisted in several Old World projects (‘Flora of Egypt’, ‘Flora of Mount Jaya’, etc.). Current floristic research in Latin America includes ‘Flora da Bahia’ (Compositae), ‘Flora of Brazil’ (Compositae: selected tribes), ‘Flora Fanerogamica do Estado de São Paulo’ (Compositae: accounts for tribes Astereae, Senecioneae, Eupatorieae [Mikania only], Lactuceae, Anthemideae) and the ‘Flora of Bolivia’ (Compositae: preliminary checklist and determination of recent collections). Also working on a checklist of the Compositae of Northeast Brazil based on Kew Herbarium collections, as part of the Northeast Brazil Repatriation Project. Outside the Neotropics, working on completion of descriptions of new taxa in Tetramolopium and Olearia for the ‘Flora of Mount Jaya’ and the Compositae account for ‘Flora Zambesiaca’. In addition, refereeing for several international journals, chairing the Margaret Mee Fellowship Programme committees. Supervision of 1 PhD student (at Universidade de São Paulo), focused on Compositae.
