Role

Effects of plant and fungal extracts on insect biology; chemical authentication of plant extracts.

Bioassays are used to test the effects of extracts and isolated compounds on the behaviour of insects. Various analytical techniques are used to identify and isolate biologically active chemicals present in plants and fungi. These chemical data are used in chemotaxonomic studies, for the development of agrochemicals and as traits for use in selective breeding of crop-plants with wild-relatives. Evaluation and application of appropriate analytical techniques on plant extracts for the purpose of authentication of plant material, used in plant herbal preparations, based on chemical markers.
