Role
Curatorial support for Tropical America regional team; writing Meliaceae for the Flora Guianas; managing the Northeast Brazil data repatriation website.
Curatorial duties involve preparation of un-mounted specimens (including carpological or spirit collections), laying in specimens of families curated by the Tropical America team, rearranging the collections according to new revisions, adding information for accessions on to the Herbarium’s CRIS database (e.g. determinations), databasing and imaging types for HerbCat, processing outgoing and incoming loans, preparing duplicates for distribution and other tasks as they arise, such as freezing material or assisting other teams with their tasks, e.g. databasing types for the African Plants Initiative. Research activities include an account of Meliaceae for the Flora of the Guianas (checking and adapting species descriptions from Flora Neotropica to Flora of the Guianas format), development of the Northeast Brazil data repatriation website (editing databases complied by various authors, producing jpg and thumbnail images from tif images as required and liasing with Information Services Dept to put the databases and images on to the internet), and naming incoming material from Tropical America.
