Role
Responsible for the production of preliminary and full conservation assessments for the MSB Enhancement Project Part 1a.
Responsible for carrying out conservation assessments using IUCN Red List Categories and Criteria. Preliminary assessments are undertaken for all taxa databased by the MSB Enhancement Project digitization team and are used to prioritize taxa for more detailed full assessments that can be submitted to IUCN. Conservation assessments are used in the collection guides to help prioritize seed collection of endangered taxa. Remit also includes developing existing methodologies for automated preliminary assessments, defining methodologies for full assessments and establishing and consulting with networks of relevant specialists/experts who can provide valuable information for assessments. Additional responsibilities include GIS tasks that are essential for the production of the collection guides, namely the production of distribution maps, phenology maps and the automatic checking of geo-referencing errors.
