Seed quality testing
The Millennium Seed Bank has unparalleled expertise in seed quality testing of wild plant species. Our methods include:
- Digital x-ray testing of seed purity
- Setting up germination tests informed by local climate data
- Biochemical tests of seed viability e.g. tetrazolium chloride
- Dissection tests using binocular microscopes

Kew's Millennium Seed Bank holds the most comprehensive collection of native seed in the UK. We offer seed from our conservation collections or regenerated stock directly to smaller conservation or restoration projects, or can sub contract the regeneration and bulking up of material for larger project requirements.
