Difficult Seeds Project

Share information with us

If you have any information on the storage conditions, germination requirements or morphology of the species in our list, please fill in the form below. This will help us to further develop the species profile pages.

Choose a species from the drop-down list that you can send us information on.

Species Name:

If there is a species you know to be difficult to handle, store, or germinate, that is not in this list, please enter it here.

Other Species:

Seed Storage

Let us know whether the seeds are held within fleshy fruits and how you normally deal with them after harvest. Please tell us what moisture level you dry the seeds to and what temperature you store them at. If the seeds lose viability very quickly in storage, please provide details.

Germination Requirements

If you have successfully germinated the seeds, tell us what germination medium you used, the temperature conditions and photoperiod (unless ambient). Let us know if you have used any special treatments to break dormancy, such as scarification or a pre-chill before germination.

Seed Morphology

Tell us about the fruit and its seeds, for example the size, shape, colours and distinguishing features. We are especially interested in the internal structure of the seeds: whether they have an endosperm and the size and position of the embryo.

If you have any images of this species that you’re happy to share with us, please e-mail them to difficultseeds@kew.org
