Tropical American Slipper Orchids
The horticulturally important tropical American slipper orchids, Phragmipedium, have gained greater significance due to some surprising recent discoveries
Although the Asian tropical slipper orchids, Paphiopedilum, have been the subject of several books in recent years, the tropical American ones (Mexipedium, Selenipedium and Phragmipedium) have been relatively neglected. Some remarkable recent discoveries, notably Phragmipedium besseae and P. kovachii, have stimulated interest considerably and a proper monographic treatment is overdue.
