Collections management; floristic & monographic research on Neotropical Melastomataceae.
Responsibility for the Collections Management Unit, Accessions Office and Packing Office (five staff members), dealing with all scientific specimen transactions to and from the Herbarium and for ensuring legislation governing their movement is complied with. System administrator for the Herbarium's computerized transaction management system (CRIS) and an Herbarium CITES Liaison Officer. Main research focus is Neotropical Melastomataceae, with a particular interest in Brazilian (Bahian) Microlicia. Preparing descriptions of new species, specialist naming and responsibility for the curatorial management of the family (assisting visitors, selecting loans and re-arranging collections according to recent publications). SEM work and macromorphological studies of anthers, seeds, ovaries and ovules carried out in preparation for publication of the new genus Algrizea (Myrtaceae).
