Role
Latin American Programme Officer for the Millennium Seed Bank Project (MSBP) from 2004 to 2007, involved in projects and activities in Chile, Mexico, Ecuador, Peru and Brazil.
Subsequently, Coordinator of the Useful Plant Project in Botswana, Kenya, Mali, Mexico and South Africa and managing the MSB partnerships in Mexico and in the Caribbean Region.
Supporting role for the MSB partnership in Italy, collaborating with the University of Pavia and the University of Cagliari on a project conserving the native flora of Sardinia.
Present responsibilities include coordinating species targeting, plant conservation activities involving rural and indigenous communities, developing new collaborations and projects, and supporting research in plant conservation and sustainable use. Specific technical input to livelihood improvement and ecological restoration projects and activities contributing to the RBG Kew wider strategy.
Past and present experience includes managing and conducting ethno-botanical and ecological surveys, as well as conservation assessments and monitoring of threatened plants with the involvement in conservation, research projects and training activities in over 15 countries in Europe, Latin America and Africa. Co-organizer and co-chair of over 80 talks for the department and involved in several international meetings and workshops. Background in plant ecology and conservation biology with an interest in sustainable development.
