Taxonomy and medicinal properties of Vitex trifolia L. complex

 

The medicinal properties of Vitex trifolia L. species complex have been utilised since the Middle Ages. In many European, Asiatic and Pacific countries different species are used in order to regulate hormonal balance in women, to suppress pain and fever and to treat coughs, infections and even cancer. It is also used as an insecticide or parasiticide. This research aims to clarify the species boundaries within the Vitex trifolia complex and to investigate some of its medicinal uses.
