Role
Digital Collections Manager of the Kew Herbarium
Leadership and management of the digitisation programme of the Kew herbarium. This includes strategic planning and fund-raising for the development of the herbarium digital collections, including broadening coverage and increasing accessibility, with a view to enhancing the research and amenity value of the herbarium specimens themselves. The role also involves development and documentation of policy with respect to digitization methodologies and ongoing curation and quality enhancement of the digital images and data records that constitute the digital collections. The herbarium digital collections are currently accessible through the online Herbarium Catalogue, as well as other international portals including GBIF and JSTOR Plant Science. In future the collections will also be made available through Europeana. These activities contribute directly towards Breathing Planet Programme key strategy 1 (BPP1) ‘Accelerating discovery and global access to plant and fungal diversity information’ and support the remaining strategies, notably BPP2 ‘Mapping and prioritising’ and BPP7 ‘Inspiring through botanic gardens’.
