Role

Digitisation Officer, IUCN Sampled Red List Index Project for Plants at Kew. Special interests in plant conservation and conservation assessments.

To work as part of the SRLI (Sampled Red List Index) team data-basing and geo-referencing herbarium specimens. Using this, together with literature research and GIS techniques leads to the production of conservation assessments using the IUCN Red List categories and criteria. This substantially contributes to the delivery of Kew’s Breathing Planet Programme target 2 (BPP 2) - mapping and prioritising. The production of the Sampled Red List Index for Plants gives a quantifiable base-line for the monitoring of the threatened status of plant species and can act as a barometer for biodiversity.

Special interests are in:
• Species mapping using geo-referenced herbarium specimens, literature research and GIS techniques
• Conservation assessments. Producing conservation assessments using the IUCN categories and criteria for submission to the IUCN as part of the Red Listing process for plant species globally. Special areas of interest: India and south-east Asia.
