Role
Seed cleaning, X-raying, banking, germination testing and harvesting of regeneration material.
Initial receipt and assessment of incoming seed bank collections, followed by the cleaning, x-raying, counting, banking and germination-testing of the received collections. If necessary, regeneration and harvesting of relevant collections is performed. All team germination test results are entered on to the Seed Bank Database. Cleaning undertaken by volunteers is organised and supervised as well as training visitors and new staff. Tours conducted and visitors hosted as part of the responsibilities as section Media Co-ordinator. Organise the repatriation of Bureau of Land Management, Chicago Botanic Garden and Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Centre foil bags to the USA for all received collections. In addition, research into seed dormancy issues in the families Agavaceae, Alliaceae, Campanulaceae, Commelinaceae, Hydrophyllaceae and Salicaceae is carried out.
