Role

Digitisation of herbarium specimens; development of database and specimen curation standards; resesarch into UKOTs species taxonomy; support for UKOTs Volunteers; programme co-ordination; undertaking conservation assessments

Develop and deliver strategies to enable UKOTs to implement the Global Strategy for Plant Conservation (GSPC) with particular focus on targets 1 and 2. Assess existing resources and capacity in individual UKOTs to achieve targets 1 and 2 of the GSPC. Collate this information; identify crucial resource and capacity gaps towards developing a strategy for achieving these targets. Development of the UKOTS Online Herbarium, using BRAHMS; database and geo-reference Kew’s collections from the UKOTs; coordinate the dissemination of information for the compilation of plant species and Red Lists via the web, publications and electronic databases. Provide training for interns, volunteers and project partners in how to use BRAHMS and UKOTs specimen curation. Undertake fieldwork in selected UKOTs to enable knowledge gaps to be filled.
