Role
Managing the KMCC database and coordinate conservation assessments
The role is to manage and develop the KMCC Conservation Database, which is essential for Kew’s research and conservation work in Madagascar. The database is used to generate publications, facilitate taxonomic research and the curation of herbaria (Kew and the National Herbarium of Madagascar), set species priorities for conservation, enable targeting and monitoring of progress for the Millennium Seed Bank Partnership (MSBP) Madagascar and link to GIS for predictive mapping and hotspot analysis. The aim is to improve data flow to and from Kew and combine and enhance Kew’s data sets for Madagascar. The role also involves coordinating KMCC IUCN red-list assessments and systematically calculating preliminary assessments for the whole flora to enable MSBP targeting. Research topics include: testing the effectiveness of expert conservation status estimates for data deficient taxa and a Madagascar sample red-list index project.
