Protected area management
The main responsibility is to build strong relationships with local communities in the project area in order to develop and implement a management plan. This involves managing a field office, liaising with local authorities, organising management meetings, establishing community associations and employing community workers to assist the project.

The role also involves undertaking botanical surveys, seed collecting for the Millennium Seed Bank Partnership Madagascar and implementing research projects with KMCC staff that will lead to better understanding of the biodiversity of the Itremo Massif and its effective management. Working with local communities the field officer will facilitate economic development of the area and the implementation of innovative KMCC projects, such as the cultivation and sustainable utilisation of yams, forest restoration and agroforestry. The wider aim is to develop strategies for engaging local communities in conservation that also offer sustainable economic benefits.
