Work on the Sampled Red List Index for Plants. Special interests in plant conservation and conservation assessments.
To work on the Sampled Red List Index (SRLI) for Plants, conducting plant conservation assessments using the IUCN Red List categories and criteria. This involves data-basing and geo-referencing herbarium specimens, conducting literature research and utilising GIS techniques to assess extinction risk based on the species known geographical distribution. This substantially contributes to the delivery of Kew’s Breathing Planet Programme target 2 (BPP 2) - mapping and prioritising. The production of the Sampled Red List Index for Plants gives a quantifiable base-line for the monitoring of the threatened status of plant species and can act as a barometer for biodiversity.
Special interests are in:
- Mapping plant species distributions by geo-referenced herbarium specimens, conducting literature research and utilising GIS techniques
- Conservation assessments: producing conservation assessments using the IUCN red list categories and criteria.
- Special areas of interest: South and Central America.
