Herbarium curation including organising curation tasks, naming, databasing and research, including Neotropical Malvaceae, Meliaceae for the Flora of the Guianas, and Compositae.

Curatorial duties include laying out material for mounting, incorporating specimens of families curated by the Tropical America Regional team, rearranging the collections according to new revisions, adding information to various databases e.g. CRIS (e.g. determinations), HerbCat (types), BRAHMS (Tropical America Regional Team project material), selecting and processing specimens for outgoing loans and reincorporating returned loans; organising team curatorial tasks and having an overview of such tasks; assisting visitors as required; supervising Tropical American Team volunteer.

Research activities include an account of Meliaceae for the Flora of the Guianas (ined.); contributing, as part of a team, to designing, constructing, compiling information and testing an interactive online key to tropical Malvaceae s.s.; naming of material from Tropical America (particularly Ochnaceae, Rutaceae, Meliaceae and Sapindaceae); participating in Tropical America research projects and field trips to Comarapa, Bolivia; Rio Cristalino, Mato Grosso and Fazenda Toucan Cipó, Minas Gerais in Brazil, including naming of collections and assisting with the development of a fieldguide to the plants of Fazenda Toucan Cipó (ined); describing a new species of Sciadocephala from Brazil and writing a key to the species with Dr Hind.

Nicky was involved in the development of the Northeast Brazil data repatriation website (editing databases complied by various authors, producing jpg and thumbnail images from tif images as required and liaising with Information Services Dept to put the databases and images on to the internet).
