Breathing Planet Programme Strategy 6 - Running repairs

Cacti habitat in the Andes mountains

Conserving what remains of plant diversity and intact habitat is vital, but we can do more.

By restoring lost and damaged habitats we can protect diversity, improve marginal land, and increase the Earth’s capacity to lock up carbon in plant biomass.

We are using the breadth of Kew’s information and skills, with partners, to make a major new contribution to repairing and renewing plant cover in areas where it has been lost or damaged.

Kew is helping to establish a global network of partners in restoration ecology to facilitate the use of seed banks and other botanic garden resources in the urgent repair and re-establishment of damaged native vegetation.
