New ‘A' level science specifications to undergo ‘Question time' by teachers

A unique opportunity to directly quiz the QCA ( Qualifications and Curriculum Authority) and awarding bodies on the new ‘A' level science specifications is being offered to teachers by RBG Kew at Wakehurst Place, West Sussex, on 30 January.

Hosted in the internationally important Millennium Seed Bank, which is at the forefront of plant research and conservation, the full day conference includes subject specific workshops and key note speeches from Rebecca Edwards of the QCA and Andrew Hunt of the Institute of Education. There will also be opportunities to visit publisher stands and preview text books for the new science specifications.

“The ‘question time' format will give teachers a chance to sound out the boards on how the changes will directly impact on the teaching and learning of what could be our future scientists,” said Sue Hunt, Research and Development Education Officer for RBG Kew and SAPS (Science and Plants for Schools). “While some teachers will have a reasonable idea of which boards they will choose, others are still reflecting on the choices available. No matter what stage they are at in the decision process, this is an opportunity not to be missed.”

To support the decision process, RBG Kew and the Science Learning Centre, South East are offering two places at the conference for the price of one. Book online at www.sciencelearningcentres.org.uk/se or contact The Science Learning Centre South East by email: slcse@soton.ac.uk
