Helf term fun at WakehurstHalf term fun at Wakehurst Have fun finding out about plants and getting creative at Wakehurst Place this half term. Kew's country garden at Ardingly, near Haywards Heath, is the perfect place for youngsters to let off steam and enjoy the great outdoors during the school holiday. A range of half term activities is being organised by Wakehurst's learning team especially for young visitors on Tuesday 24, Wednesday 25 and Thursday 26 October. Wake up Sleeping Beauties! In the Mansion Science Zone budding young scientists will be able to learn more about seeds and the tiny sleeping embryo plants they contain. Help work out how to wake up certain seeds and see how long they take to start growing. Suitable for ages seven and over, this activity will be held from 10.30am to 12.30pm and 1pm to 3.30pm. Create a Bigger Picture Arts activities will be taking place around the garden – visitors can go on a trail of discovery and drawing around the grounds, help to create a huge montage of a view of Wakehurst, and decorate banners celebrating the work of the Millennium Seed Bank Project Kew, which is based at Wakehurst. The arts activities are suitable for all ages and will take place between 10.30am and 3.30pm. Alongside the organised activities they is always plenty to fascinate and entertain children at Wakehurst, from woodland walks and trails to wildlife spotting, and always something new to see. In the Millennium Seed Bank Project youngsters can see the laboratories and watch scientists who are working to safeguard the world's most endangered plant species. They can also take a closer look at the complexity and beauty of seeds and pollen and explore the project's work through interactive screens.
