'Sniff but don't snip'

IMMEDIATE RELEASE

‘Sniff but don’t snip’ is the message from horticulturalists at Kew’s country garden in West Sussex where the scent of Daphne bholua is filling the air with fragrance.
.
The bush is in full flower and proving a popular winter attraction at the 500-acre estate near Ardingly.
.
But before green-fingered visitors think about taking a quick cutting home, Wakehurst’s experts warn that the plant won’t propagate.
.
“Even we’ve tried to grow the plant this way, but without success”, says a spokesman at Wakehurst Place. “The best way is from seed, bought from a reputable source.”
.
The gardens are open seven days a week from 10am. Tel 01444 894066 www.kew.org
