The Genus Sorbus: Mountain Ash and other Rowans
Attractive, diverse, and easy to grow, rowans are ideal for a wide variety of gardens. Yet surprisingly, few are grown or even known about. The Genus Sorbus helps rectify this through describing over 60 species related to the familiar rowan Sorbus aucuparia, including recent introductions from China. Adorned with profuse flowers and fruits of pure white, crimson, pink, yellow and orange to red in spring, their visual appeal is amply demonstrated through the book's 20 beautiful full-page colour plates.
The Genus Sorbus provides a wealth of new information on the genus. It will aid gardeners and horticulturists in the selection of the right species for a particular situation and is published to coincide with the effective planting season, which runs for the next 6 months. Sections on propagation and cultivation are invaluable to gardeners and professional horticulturists, whilst the inclusion of its evolutionary history will be of great interest to botanists, biogeographers and plant collection enthusiasts.
The Genus Sorbus is a Botanical Magazine Monograph, an influential series based on the tradition established by Curtis's Botanical Magazine, the world's longest running illustrated botanical journal. Each authoritative monograph provides a unique and accessible blend of botany and horticulture, providing the reader with a comprehensive guide to a particular group of plants, covering scientific research, details of the plants in their wild habitats, conservation issues and cultivation requirements.
Written by specialists, edited by leading botanists and horticulturists and lavishly illustrated by world-class botanical artists, Botanical Magazine Monographs form a highly desirable and collectable series for everyone who loves and nurtures our garden plant heritage.
