Autumn minibus tours at country Kew

SEE THE very best of autumn colour at Kew’s county garden by minibus. Special tours of the 500-acre Wakehurst Place estate in West Sussex are being staged on Sundays 16, 23 and 30 October.

The tours complement the weekday guided walks and are aimed at visitors who would otherwise find it difficult to see the glorious colours in the remotest parts of the Gardens and woodland.

“The tours will be free for Garden visitors”, explains Ranger Veronica Withall. “Although we welcome donations on the day towards our costs.”

The minibuses, which also cater for visitors in wheelchairs, will run through the day. The Gardens open at 10.00am.

“Recent autumns have produced some of the best spectacles staff at Wakehurst Place can remember”, adds Veronica. “Horticulturalists regarded the colour in the past few years as ‘right off the scale’ as trees and shrubs put on the most spectacular autumn display.”

Kew’s country garden is the perfect place to enjoy an outstanding range of leaf colour though October, November and into December. Admire all that nature can produce – the bright yellows, bronze, red, purple and all the colours in between.

As well at the stunning natural colours there are still flowers to enjoy as well as stem and bark effects to wonder. The new exhibition area in the Mansion Gallery promises a fascinating display of top quality botanic art – a stunning array of Photgams by Angela Easterling on rare species found on the British Virgin Islands.

For more details, visit the website at www.kew.org or call the 24-hour information line on 01444 894066. Group discounts apply for parties of ten or more paying.

Wakehurst Place is on the B2028 between Ardingly and Turners Hill. Use Junction 10 off the M23.
