Press Release

Climbers & Creepers offers huge fun!

UK's First Interactive Botanical Play Zone to open 29 June 2004

Children visiting Kew Gardens this summer will be able to learn about plants through play in a unique new interactive learning area.

In Climbers & Creepers kids can:

  • Climb into a plant to pollinate it
  • Get 'eaten' by a giant Venus Fly Trap
  • Crawl through a bramble tangle...

...and have a lot more fun while discovering the importance of plant and animal relationships.

This major new facility is an innovative indoor/outdoor place for children between the ages of 3 and 9 to explore with their parents, grandparents and carers. It consists of 16 attractions that provide an exciting encounter with a magical landscape of super-sized plant adventures. It marks a new commitment by Kew to learning through fun and engaging children in the pleasure and interest of plants.

Climbers & Creepers occupies about 1,000 sq. metres in a glass structure within the Gardens, offering shelter in the winter months but opening up to the air in good weather. Above the exploration zone is 'The Lookout', which is a rest and observation area with snacks and information.

Admission is free. (Accompanied children pay no entrance fee to the Gardens.)

Kew Gardens is just 25 minutes from Charing Cross by District line tube and 20 minutes by overland train from Waterloo. Free parking is available on Kew Road and Kew Green after 10.00am.
