Structural Engineers for The Shirley Sherwood Gallery of Botanical Art scoop an ACE award
Michael Barclay Partnership LLP, has won the ACE Engineering Excellence Award, beating over 100 companies in the ‘Small Firms’ category for their work on The Shirley Sherwood Gallery.
Their structural engineering approach was to provide an elegant and lean structure which integrated with the energy strategy and provided the high degree of transparency required by the architecture. Structure for the Gallery was designed to have minimal ecological impact and construction methodologies were carefully controlled to mitigate disturbance to visitors to the Gardens.
The gallery opened in April 2008, and since its opening 80,000 visitors have walked through its doors.
