Jojoba

This leathery-leaved evergreen shrub can live for over 200 years!

Known for the liquid ‘wax’ contained in its seeds (or nuts), Jojoba (Simmondsia chinensis) is used as a natural remedy to soothe skin.
Its usefulness was discovered from Native Americans who used the nuts in medicine, cooking and decoration. Now there are many plantations of Jojoba in arid regions of the world.

Did you know?
This tough desert plant has separate male and female plants. It survives on less than 30cm of rain per year by having roots up to 10 metres long.
Its oil was used to lubricate American machine guns in World War 2.
