Remembrance Sunday Wreath
The wreath that is laid at the Cenotaph by the Foreign and Commonwealth
Office on Remembrance Sunday is made by the Royal Botanic
Gardens, Kew. Fresh leaves and flowers are collected from
the Gardens on the Friday morning. Plants native to several
of the overseas territories are included in the design, which
changes each year. For example olive
is used to represent Gibraltar, parrot’s plantain to represent
the British Virgin Islands, and the chocolate box orchid
to represent the Cayman Islands. The wreath is completed
and delivered to the Foreign Office by Saturday morning.
