Cinnamon

Bet you never realised you've eaten a Sri Lankan tree!

Cinnamon is the dried bark of Cinnamomum verum
(syn. C. zeylanicum) a tree now mainly grown in Sri Lanka.

So how long do you think Cinnamon has been around?

It is said to be among the oldest of spices. One of reasons Columbus sailed west was to try to find the eastern Spice Islands in 1492. It was one of the first crops to start world trade.
