Scientific name: Prumnopitys andina

Family: Podocarpaceae

Shape: broadly conical to 15 m, usually a large bush in cultivation

Foliage: evergreen; foliage is yew-like but paler in colour. Leaves are linear to 2.5 cm with two whitish bands on the undersurface

Female cone: fleshy plum-like structure ripening from green to yellow, with single seed

Origin: Argentina and southern Chile

Remark: the fleshy outer coat of the seeds is edible and local people in its native region also eat the kernels.
