Mango - other uses
Mango waste from the food-processing industry such as fruit peelings and seeds have been trialled as an innovative way to produce biogas.
A gum can be tapped from the stems of mango trees which used to be sold in Indian bazaars as a substitute for gum Arabic.
Charcoal can be made from mango wood.
It's also a good shade tree and is often planted along roadsides and in fields.
Fragrance
Fragrant mango flowers were used in India to make a fragrant essential oil known as an otto. It was called am attar and was produced by steam distilling the young flowers.Gum, charcoal and shade
