Kew's work in Europe
Meadlands Primary School
The Meadlands Primary School wildlife garden project began in February
1994. It aims to teach the children of the school, aged between
5 and 11 years, the importance of our environment and countryside.
The area was designed to incorporate a range of habitats and plants
under threat thoughout the UK, using only native plants found in
habitats such as hedgerows, meadows, ponds, and woodlands.
The work was carried out by the teachers, parents and most importantly
the children of the school.
Over the past ten years Meadlands School have won many awards for
this area and continue with new conservation projects.
This area today is used extensively for teaching subjects in the
National Curriculum such as maths, science, art, and creative writing.
