Wood: Rocky Mountain
This province is mainly coniferous forest in which the mixture
of species changes the higher up the mountains they grow. In the
foothills, there's scrub oak and ponderosa pine. Then come the mountain
and sub-alpine species, such as Engelmann spruce which thrives in
cold humid conditions. In the Rockies, it grows right up to the
tree line - the altitude above which no trees can grow - and is
valued for its wood, much in demand for sounding boards in pianos
