The Riverside Zone
The strip of the Gardens that runs alongside the Thames was not
originally part of either Kew Gardens or Richmond Gardens, having
been occupied by historic buildings and their gardens.
Near the river is the oldest building at Kew, the 17th century
Dutch House, now called Kew Palace, behind which is the small, formal
17th century style Queen's Garden and the Bee Garden.
Three places in the zone are not open to the general public. They
are are the Herbarium, the modern Sir Joseph Banks Centre for Economic
Botany and the Tropical Nursery Complex.
