Growing plants in the Tropical Nursery

The Tropical Nursery Complex

Closed to visitors, the large area of the Tropical Nursery Complex comprises extensive modern glasshouses, administrative offices and staff housing.

Tropical Nursery

The nursery glasshouses are, in fact, the largest areas under glass in the Gardens at 6,500 sq. m, even bigger than the Temperate House. In here, 1000s of plants are raised for reseach and exhibition.

Quarantine Glasshouse

There is quarantine section for plants collected from the wild. Quarantine is strictly enforced so that no non-native pests or diseases can escape into the local environment.

Micropropagation Unit

There is also the Micropropagation Unit, conserving rare species of flowering plants and mosses.
