Come and make masks inspired by the ancient Maya

Crafts at the Maya village

During the Easter festival (31 March to 15 April), Kew Palace lawn will be transformed into a Maya village where a botanical explorer has set up a base camp. The village will be the site of craft workshops where you can make Maya themed items to take home. Workshops will run through the day, giving you the opportunity to make Maya inspired masks and headdresses as well as Guatemalan worry dolls to take all your worries away!

Chocolate adventure trail

Pick up a trail card at any gate and follow our self guided trail suitable for all the family. Following the trail will take you on an adventure around the Gardens where you will learn the secrets behind a special chocolate drink made by the ancient Maya. On your journey you will see plants in our glasshouses that are used to flavour chocolate, offer origami flowers to the jaguar god in the Waterlily House and add to a cacao wishing tree in the Princess of Wales Conservatory.

Traditional Maya chocolate

Available daily in the Munch Box during the Easter festival, chocolate making workshops will allow you to have a go at making your own chocolate to take home. You will get a chance to see the traditional methods used by the ancient Maya to make their special chocolate drink and taste how different it is to the chocolate you find in chocolate bars today!

Workshops are available daily during the festival at: 10.30am, 11.30am, 12.30pm, 2.30pm & 3.30pm. Spaces are limited.
