Description: |
Hoverflies are brightly coloured and look like bees or wasps, but they don't sting. They mimic insects that sting and also taste unpleasant, so are avoided by predators. There are about 250 different types of hoverfly Britain. Adult hoverflies feed on nectar and pollen from flowers. The larvae of different species eat different things. Some eat aphids. Others feed on plants, rotting wood or fungi. |
