Description: |
A social bee that lives in hives of up to 500,000 individuals. Once she has mated, the queen bee stays inside the hive, being looked after by the worker bees. The worker bees collect pollen and nectar to eat and to feed the young grubs (larvae). The worker bees are all female. The male bees (drones) are looked after by the workers until they fly off to mate. |
