Description:

True flies have only one pair of wings. The hind wings are reduced to minute drumstick-shaped structures called halteres, or balancers. Most flies feed on liquids, such as nectar or blood. Houseflies feed on solid food by dissolving it first, by regurgitating digestive fluids onto it then soaking up the fluid.
