Description: |
Elm is a stately tree with a spreading crown. However in Britain it rarely grows large because Dutch Elm Disease kills the plant when the trunk gets large enough for bark beetles to feed in it. The bark beetles carry the disease. The small flowers are pollinated by the wind. Two native species are English elm (Ulmus procera) and wych elm (Ulmus glabra). |
