Description: |
An insect. In most beetles, the front wings are modified to form wing cases. They are hard and often shiny. The back pair of wings are hidden underneath and only revealed when the beetle flies. The wing cases meet in a line down the middle of the body (unlike bugs, where the wing tips overlap). Beetles all have chewing mouthparts, while bugs have piercing mouthparts for sucking. There are more types of beetle than any other insect in the world. |
