Description: |
Ants are sociable insects that live in large colonies. Only the queen ant lays eggs. The worker ants look after her, the grubs (larvae) and each other. Male ants appear at the end of summer, to breed. Male and queen ants have wings, but worker ants don't. The queen breaks her wings off after she has mated. There are lots of species of ant. Many have strong jaws for biting. Some can sting by squirting formic acid. |
