Aquatic plants, e.g. duckweed, and invertebrates such as pond snails.

Eaten by:

Fox. crows and magpies eat eggs and young birds.

Description:

The commonest type of duck. Males are brightly coloured with a dark green head, purple-brown body and yellow beak. Females are mainly brown. The female makes the 'quack' noise.
