Landscape Designs
After visiting the site, brainstorming ideas and doing research on wildlife
habitats, the children drew out their plans to show how they would develop
the new wildlife area.

Existing features such as the river and gravel pit were recorded on the first
visit. Ideas for how the area could be improved were added to the plans.

Ideas for improving the area for wildlife and people included a dead hedge, meadow and picnic area.

This plan included a funky designs for table and chairs, and an infra-red
camera for wildlife watching.

Signage and storage areas for pond dipping equipment have been included in
this detailed plan.

Children were asked to think about access issues - which areas should be accessible
and which should be protected.

Some great ideas, like a glass tunnel under the pond, couldn't be included
in the development as they were too expensive.

different depths of water.

As well as different depths of water, Callum and William considered what the
pond should be edged with.

This three-dimensional plan of the pond showed the raised platform for pond-dipping
as a bridge.

As well as landscaping features, some children researched the plants that
we should include. Louisa also wanted sculptures of animals, so these were
commissioned from a woodcarver for the final development.

Signage and path materials were some of the landscaping issues that children
were asked to think about.

Lizzy created an interpretation sign for the dead hedge.

to think about the wildlife there.
