Schools Education - Kew
Setting the scene
The Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew is a world heritage site on the south bank of the River Thames. The Gardens, just 10km south-west of central London, combine exceptional plant collections, unique architecture and breathtaking landscapes.
Each week we welcome thousands of students, of all ages, to assist them in studying a wide range of subjects from science and art, to geography and maths .
The Gardens make the perfect outdoor classroom. Their stunning landscapes hold many famous plant collections plus an unbeatable range of magnificent glasshouses. Step inside and witness the amazing variation of plants from different climates round the world. Walk through the hot and steamy tropical rain forests, experience dry desert heat, and witness the coolness of the sub-tropics.
The 132 hectares offer a range of habitats for exploration - from the diversity of the Conservation Area to the extensive arboretum, and the Rhizotron and Xstrata Treetop Walkway where you are eye-to-eye with the canopy.
We are also home to two art galleries, the famous Pagoda, Kew Palace, Queen Charlotte's Cottage and an informative exhibition on Plants and People.

Education at Kew
Kew Gardens allow students to experience and explore extreme habitats whatever the weather outside. Students have the chance to investigate the way plants adapt to different environments, learn about the uses of plants and look at some of the problems faced by the natural world.
Climbers and creepers
Climbers and creepers - a botanically-themed centre for children aged 3-7. It's the perfect place to explore a giant world of plants and find out about how they interact with animals, including pollination and carnivorous plants.
