Richard Wilford

Richard WilfordRichard works in the Hardy Display section at Kew as collections manager, responsible for alpines, bulbs and hardy herbaceous perennials, including the plants grown and displayed in the new Davies Alpine House. He has written regularly for Kew magazine since spring 2000, when his first article looked at the propagation of alpine cushion plants. A keen photographer, he has built up a slide collection of plants and gardens, which are often used to illustrate his articles. Richard’s first book, Tulips: species and hybrids for the gardener (Timber Press, 2006), is illustrated with more than 100 of his own photographs.

Working in the Gardens, I am looking at plants every day and can choose the perfect time to photograph them, when they are at their best.
