CYPERACEAE newsletter Number 15
EDITORIAL
Once again we have to apologise for the long delay between the publication of Cyperacaeae Newsletter 14 and the present issue. As always we use the excuse of too much other work but Dave Simpson has a further excuse, the birth of a daughter in May 1996!
In response to our question ' would you like to see Cyperaceae Newsletter on the Internet?' 52% said yes, 15% said no and 32% expressed no opinion. Accordingly Cyperaceae Newsletter, from number 14 onwards, is now available on the Kew World Wide Web pages at http://www.rbgkew.org.uk/herbarium/sedges/sedges.html.While we do not intend to stop printing a hard copy version we would be grateful to know if any of you who have access to the World Wide Web would prefer not to receive a printed copy in future.
We would again encourage you to send short papers on Cyperaceae to be considered for publication in the Newsletter. They will be subject to review before a final decision is made on publication., but they will be seen by a wide audience.
The Monocots II conference being held in Sydney in 1998 will have a large Cyperaceae component. Several sessions are being organised which will cover a wide range topuics related to the family. This should be an excellent conference and well worth attending. Further details are given on page ??
Finally on a lighter note we have amused by a number of commercial products which have adopted Carex as their trademark. These range from liquid antiseptic handwash in the UK to (believe it or not) condoms in Madagascar! If you come across any similar uses of Cyperaceae names we would be interested to hear about them.
