He has new projects looking at the biology and weed ecology of Bulbostylis striatella in Australia; putative new species of Bulbostylis in Australia; the biology and putative new species of Crosslandia and the reproductive biology of some Schoeneae from New South Wales (an Honours project by Margaret Wheeler)
Ms Jane COLE (Desert Botanical Garden Library, 1201 North Galvin Parkway, Phoenix, Arizona 85008-3490, USA has a standing interest in Carex species, especially those from Arizona and South America.
Dr Nancy DENGLER (Department of Botany, University of Toronto, 25 Willcocks St., Toronto, Ontario, Canada M5S 3B2) has a standing interest in the differentiation of photosynthetic tissue in C4 Poaceae and Cyperaceae. Her new projects concern comparative anatomy and ultrastructure of C4 Cyperaceae and tissue differentiation in C4 Cyperaceae.

Ms Maria Fatima MERELES (Sección Botánica, Fac. de Ciencias Químicas, Universidad Nacional de Asunción, Casilla de Correo 1055, Asunción, Paraguay) has a standing interest in the genus Eleocharis and has started the treatment of Bolboschoenus for the Flora of Paraguay.

Mr Abraham M. MUASYA (East African Herbarium, National Museums of Kenya, PO Box 45 166, Nairobi, Kenya) has taken a 3 year secondment and is currently a PhD student at Kew working on the phylogeny of the genus Isolepis and its allies.
Mr Michael OLDHAM (Natural Heritage Information Centre, P.O. Box 7000, Peterborough, Ontario, Canada K9J 8M5) has a standing interest in floristics, conservation and taxonomy of Cyperaceae of the Great Lakes area. He has started a database on rare vascular plants of Ontario and a status report on Carex juniperorum.
Prof. Dr Alfred OTENG-YEBOAH (Department of Botany, University of Ghana, P.O. Box 55, Legon, Ghana) has a standing interest in the Scirpeae. His new project concerns a study on the systematics of the genus Fuirena in East Africa.
Mr Gilberto PEDRALLI (SAT-CETEC, Caixa Postal 2306, 31170-000 Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais, Brazil) is interested in aquatic plants, including Cyperaceae (Carex, Bulbostylis, Eleocharis) and Eriocaulaceae (Eriocaulon, Paepalanthus).
Dr Theodore RAAB (Department of EPO Biology, N-122 Ramaley Hall, University of Colorado, Boulder, CO 80309-0334, USA) is assessing the phylogenetic distribution of nutrient-uptake characteristics among arctic/alpine Cyperaceae. He is currently testing alpine Kobresia myosuroides for amino acid-uptake properties. This work form part of investigations of arctic/alpine ecology of Cyperaceae being undertaken in the Rocky Mountains and elsewhere.
Mr Andrès RODRIGUEZ (Departamento de Biología Vegetal (Botánica), Universidad de León, 24071 León, Spain) is describing a new species of Carex, C. ancarbiana.
Dr A. (Sandy) ROBERTSON (7, St Brigius Place, St John's, Newfoundland, Canada) tells that a second edition of his Carex of Newfoundland will be available soon.
Dr Christian SCHEUER (Institut für Botanik, Holteigasse 6, A-8010 Graz, Austria) has a standing interest in saprophytic microfungi on esp. northern and temperate Cyperaceae.
Dr C.K. SHAH (Department of Botany, University School of Sciences, Gujarat University, Ahmedabad 380 009, India) is writing a book called The Botany of the Cyperaceae (embracing main features) and is studying axis-appendage strategy in mature sedge embryos.
Mr Bernd SONNEBERG (Botany Department, Rhodes University, P.O. Box 94, Grahamstown 6140, South Africa) has a standing interest in anatomy related to distribution, habitat and edaphic factors of Cyperaceae species. He is using stastical programs (TWINSPAN, DECORANA and CONOCO) to establish whether there is a direct correlation between habitat type and the internal anatomy of Cyperaceae species.
Ms Connie SOROS-POTTRUFF (Department of Botany, Earth Sciences Centre, 25 Willcocks St., Toronto, Ontario, Canada M5S 3B2) has started a Ph.D. thesis on the differences between C3 and C4 Cyperaceae as well as between the different anatomical types of C4 Cyperaceae. Research is concentrating mainly on development and tissue differentiation.
Dr Sven-Olov STRANDHEDE (Department of Systematic Botany, Carl Skottsbergs G.22, S-413 19 Göteborg, Sweden) has standing interests in Eleocharis ser. palustriformes.
Prof. Dr Herwig TEPPNER (Institut für Botanik, Karl-Franzens-Universität, Holteigasse 6, A-8010 Graz, Austria) is interested in floristics and systematics of Carex in Europe and the systematics of Cyperus esculentus s.l.
