Coryanthes is one of the genera of Stanhopeinae treated
in Genera Orchidacearum, volume 5. Charles Darwin, whose 200th
birthday is celebrated next month, discussed its pollination
in his "On the Various Contrivances by which
British and Foreign Orchids are Fertilised by Insects" (1862). Coryanthes
macrantha (Hook.) Hook. was grown and photographed
